Engaged in the Secular Institute of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate for nearly 65 years, I am always amazed by the thousand and one small gestures of CHARITY experienced daily in my new very privileged living environment in RPA.
Last October 4, on the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Scriptures invited us to live a “JOYEOUS CHARITY! “How beautiful; we need this precise attitude in our daily lives, especially on days of gloom or illness.
We are more than 300 people in our residence and I give thanks for the attention shown by the children and grandchildren to the parents, aunts or other elders. Yes, a beautiful presence, gestures of kindness, compassion, sensitivity and services adapted to each; a unique way to bring joy to the life of loved ones. Yes, it is a JOYFUL CHARITY! which is happening before my eyes.
On that same feast day, the reading in the Word of God was of the choice Mary made to be seated at the feet of the Lord, listening to his word, while Martha was occupied in her role as hostess. A comment by the presider at mass was on the importance of always sitting with Jesus a while before getting busy with things of the world.
By going to the school of Mary of the Visitation, we learn to develop an attentive ear and a compassionate heart.
A beautiful learning experience to put into practice on a daily basis.
