Thought of Father Louis-Marie Parent, O.M.I. / Reflection 12

Peacemakers invest their energy in establishing calm, quiet and order. Nothing troubles them interiorly or exteriorly. Father Louis-Marie Parent, O.M.I.

Reflection on Father Parent's thoughts:
Father Parent's words prompt me to reflect on the true meaning of peace, even before considering what it means to be a peacemaker. We often think of peace as merely the absence of war or a state where everything around us seems perfect. However, these are just conditions that describe a certain type of peace.

Some great personalities have also written about Peace, for example, Ghandi: "There is no path to peace, peace is the path". Martin Luther King: "He who lives in harmony with himself, lives in harmony with the universe." Mother Teresa: “Every act of love is a work of peace. Its greatness or smallness matters little". Not forgetting her words when asked, "What can we do to promote peace in the world?" and her reply, "Go home and love your family!" It was a magical phrase, as it placed us at the very foundation of peace-building. And what about Victor Hugo's wisdom: "You want peace: create love".

All these beautiful words are moving and meaningful. However, there is something deeply rooted within me that I hold with unwavering conviction: I believe that I cannot speak of peace, build peace, or sow peace unless there is someone within me who guides and nourishes my actions. For me, that someone is Jesus. He is the one who, at every moment, guides my steps, fills me with His Spirit, and grants me peace of heart, soul, and mind, enabling me to act as a true Peacemaker.

So this is what I think and believe. I invite us to let ourselves be imbued with His presence, to help, to listen and, above all, to love on a daily basis, since this is a sure value that will enable us to be artisans of Peace, as Father Parent so aptly put it.
